Orust chickens are an exotic and rare breed which is EXTREMELY HARD to find! We're one of the few breeders in the southeast. In 2016 there were literally less than 3000 of these birds in the whole world! One of the coolest things about them is how strikingly beautiful they are and how they are black and white spotted - even their feet are black and white spotted! (Check out the last picture!)

We have found this to be a very hardy breed, and one unusual characteristic is that the roosters’ wattles become a bright iridescent violet color whenever they become agitated; a state that is often encountered because they are protective of the hens. The hens are prolific egg layers, and they produce a small to medium-sized white egg.

Live birds can only be shipped using USPS Priority Express which reaches most local post offices overnight. Your birds must be picked up from the local Post Office as quickly as possible to ensure your new babies are safe. Shipping is additional and generally ranges from $25 to $75 depending on where you live and how many chicks you order. We're currently only shipping within the continental United States.

Our Live Chick Guarantee only applies if you order 6 or more chicks. This is because we believe that 6 chicks is the ideal number of bodies to keep the little guys safe. (Enough fluff for padding and enough bodies for heat).
