Thank you so much for your business! We'd like for as many people as possible to enjoy these beautiful breeds of chickens, so, all orders from Country Egg Hatchery are subject to the following terms and conditions. When you purchase animals from Country Egg Hatchery, you agree to these terms and conditions as a prerequisite of ordering. There are no exceptions to these terms and conditions, so please read them carefully and be sure you are willing to abide by them before ordering. If you are unwilling to abide by them without complaint, please do not place an order.
Ordering. Orders may be placed right here through the shopping cart function on this website, you can email us at countryegghatchery@gmail.com. You should know that, yes, Country Egg Hatchery is a real working farm. Our small crew stays really busy taking care of our chickens, turkeys, pheasants, pigeons, peafowl, alpaca, goats and other livestock. We don’t have people sitting in cubicles processing orders. We are also completely off-grid, meaning our power comes from the sun and our water comes from a well. We have to use resources sparingly, so, there may be a delay in responding to your inquiries. We thank you in advance for your patience.
72-Hour Live Chick Guarantee. If you place an order for 6 (six) or more chicks Country Egg Hatchery guarantees you will receive the number of chicks you ordered and that they will live for 72 hours after you receive them. If you have fewer live birds than you ordered within 72 hours after delivery, we will reimburse you the value of the dead birds. We do not send replacement birds. To receive your refund you must notify us of the loss within 72 hours after you receive the birds and provide an emailed photo of any dead birds. This guarantee applies only to chicks.
Minimum Order. We recommend that you order a minimum of 6 (six) day-old chicks. You can order any combination of chicks that you like, but be mindful that large breeds can knock around smaller breeds (like bantams or quail) in shipment because of the size disparity. You may order fewer than six chicks but it is not a practice we recommend, and the 72-Hour Live Chick Guarantee will not apply in these cases. We believe a half-dozen chicks is the minimum number necessary to provide warmth and cushioning for safe shipment. You, the buyer, assume the risk of loss if you order fewer than six chicks. We strongly encourage you to order the minimum to increase the health and safety of the chicks during shipping.
On rare occasions, several weeks or months after we have shipped chicks a customer will say that their chickens have developed symptoms of a disease, and the customer is certain the disease originated at our farm. Our reputation is important to our farm, and we go to extraordinary lengths to ensure our birds are disease-free. Our flocks are regularly tested and we are NPIP certified.
Lastly, but most importantly, you should know that it is very difficult to determine the origin of a disease in a chicken flock. The transmission of disease is a complex and subtle process, and even expert pathologists often struggle to identify the precise origin of a disease. If you have a flock consisting of chickens from other sources, songbirds have access to your flock, or people have visited your property after being near chickens located elsewhere, then there are potentially many different disease pathways that could cause disease in your chickens.
Quarantine. All birds received from Country Egg Hatchery must be quarantined and observed for at least 30 days before exposing them to your chicken flock for optimal results.
Shipping. Orders are usually shipped on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday each week and are delivered by the United States Postal Service Express. Up to 20 day-old chicks can be placed in a box. Shipping is automatically calculated based on the number of chicks ordered and your zip code. We will email you the tracking number when the birds ship. We do not ship via two-day priority mail. USPS Priority Mail Express is the fastest domestic service available from the USPS. Although we pay for this express service, we do not guarantee that your shipment will be delivered overnight. The delivery commitments vary depending on your zip code; please check with the USPS if you are concerned about the possibility of two-day delivery. We will not refund shipping charges for orders that do not arrive by the estimated delivery date and/or time. However, please remember that our 72-Hour Live Chick Guarantee will ensure that you will be reimbursed for any chicks that die within 72 hours after they arrive.
Payment. Full payment is due before the birds are shipped. We respect your privacy and never share or sell your personal information with any third parties.
Timing of Shipment and Order Cancellation. It is difficult to precisely predict laying rates, fertility rates, and hatch rates, especially when dealing with small numbers of very rare animals. We do our best to accurately estimate delivery dates, but it is only an estimate, and we can be wrong. We estimate your order will ship within 3 to 6 weeks, but it sometimes takes longer. Country Egg Hatchery is not a commercial hatchery, we are a small off grid farm. Thank you in advance for your patience.
If we do not ship the birds by the estimated ship date (up to 6 weeks from your order), you may cancel your order and immediately receive a full refund. If you cancel or remove birds from your order for any reason other than our inability to timely ship you will forfeit 50% of the cost of birds removed from your order. There is a lot of behind the scenes labor that goes into every single order and even more so when one is cancelled. This is a fee for that labor. Please be confident with your order before you place it. Cancellation requests must be made 4 days before your scheduled ship date (6 weeks after your order date). There are zero exceptions to this policy.
COVID-19 note: Our cancellation policy remains in effect. If you have any concerns or are unable to go to the post office, please notify us immediately so we can postpone or delay your order.
No Farm Tours or Pick Up. We'd love to spend time with you on our farm, but we take biosecurity very seriously, and farm visits expose our flocks to the potential for inadvertent disease transmission. We simply can't take that risk, so we don't schedule farm tours or the pick up of orders on the farm.
Hatching Eggs. We don’t sell hatching eggs on our website, but we do sell hatching eggs on eBay. We post auctions based on egg availability and viability. Our seller page is https://www.ebay.com/usr/countryegghatchery
Printed Catalogs. We don’t have a catalog. We are a small farm not a large hatchery so our availability changes too often to have catalogs printed. We do keep our website up to date.
What You Should Expect. You should expect birds that reflect the fundamental attributes of the breed. You should not expect a cosmetically perfect bird. In fact, you should expect to find some defects in virtually every bird you raise. Just as every child is not destined to become a supermodel, every bird is not destined to win ribbons at shows. Only a tiny fraction of chickens conform to their breed standard in all respects. We do not represent that every bird we sell is show quality or is flawless. You should receive birds that can be the foundation for a breeding program that with enough time and skill can produce show-quality birds. You should also realize that the rarer the breed, the more likely you are to encounter problems related to inbreeding. For some breeds and varieties that we sell, the global breeding population consists of fewer than a dozen hens. We cull for obvious defects like crooked toes, but low fertility, low egg production, low disease resistance, and other challenges are not uncommon with extremely rare breeds. If you encounter these challenges when the birds become adults, you will need to address them with your own breeding plan. We do not offer refunds beyond the 72-Hour Live Chick Guarantee.
